This blog should really be called "Why I decided to make Frods Season 2", but "Sequel Saver" sounds much better. Yep, you heard it... in this episode, I’ll be spilling all the beans on why Frods Season 2 isn’t just your average follow-up. Honestly, it's so important it demands its own spotlight! Most of the time, I find sequels about as necessary as a chocolate teapot. But this one? Oh, it was more needed than socks with shoes.
Where on earth do I start? Well, I suppose I should kick things off at the very beginning— way back when the idea first hit me. Picture this: I had just released Guardian 54 and 56 when I thought, “Hey, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and revisit the first season of Frods. So, I opened the old episodes and, yeah, I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the ending!
What happened to him? Was he really just plain old Fred and it was all just a dream?! (A lot of spoilers by the way) And being the detail-oriented person I am, I found myself questioning the artistry of it all. You see, I like explanations and there wasn't really one for this. I mean, why on Earth was there no backdrop until the fifth episode? Did the set designer forget the paintbrush? Luckily, it ended in the best way possible for a second season.
Out of nowhere, I came up with the idea that Fred had dreamed about three people who should NEVER be dreamed of… the people of Dreamlandia. Now, these people are the ones who keep an eye on everyone’s dreams. So naturally, when they noticed Fred's, they realized he’d caused a huge mess—not just for himself but for everyone around him. I won’t spoil the whole story (it sounds way better and less complicated coming from the characters themselves). But this setup let me bring back all my other characters and finally give Frods the ending he deserved. This second season definitely made Frods the favourite out of all my work. It had everything I could ask for.
When I told my grandad I was making Frods Season 2, he said to me, "Let me guess, more portals in every episode?" Touché, grandad, touché. He wasn’t wrong about the unusual amount of portals in Season 1. You'd think it was a wormhole convention. But this time, things were going to be different. This season would have a whole new theme! And if you haven’t guessed it already, come on… it’s obviously dreams.
You know what time it is? It's inspiration sharing time! Let me just say it straight: Spider-Man No Way Home. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking... “Jaime, come on, enough with the Spider-Man inspiration already!” And to that I say: NEVER! Okay, people might roll their eyes and say I’m copying the whole “characters return, chaos is caused” storyline, but that’s not true. I mean, yes, characters do make a comeback, but for very different reasons. In my story, they come back not only with a fresh twist but as slightly altered versions of their former selves... and they’re way more powerful than before.
So yeah, I should probably do a Spider-Man blog. Ooh, that’d be fun! But anyway, back to what we were on with... I genuinely believe this season has made the whole series worth reading. The only catch is, readers have to get through Season 1 first, and that might be tricky if they’re one of those people who “can’t handle a few creative and non-existing background choices.” But hey, it’s all part of the artistic experience.
