Recently, my Discord server hit 100 members — which, for me, is basically the same as hitting one million. Stick around to find out why I created this little corner of fun, what it actually is (besides a place for questionable memes), and the oddly specific gap it fills in the world of Jimbowha Productions.
A few years ago, I launched the Jimbowha Productions Discord server for all my fans to join. Problem was… I had no fans. So for a solid chunk of time, it was just me and five other members who spoke less than my dog (literally). Eventually though, as my website found its way into the spotlight, the server did too. I eventually started advertising it to people who weren’t technically fans yet — because why wait for natural fandom when you can just drag innocent people in and force them to be fans? Which, shockingly, is a strategy that works.
What is it? The Jimbowha Productions Discord server is a place where you can chat, meet different people and maybe even make a friend or two if you’re brave enough. We’ve got different channels for all sorts of stuff: general chit-chat, an art corner (where people share their masterpieces and masterpieces-in-progress), comic/manga, movies/shows, Marvel/DC and much more! The main vibe of the server at the time of writing this is super chill… mostly because there aren’t enough people to make it chaotic yet.
Why did I start it? I initially thought it’d be good to create a server where everyone who liked Jimbowha Productions could get together and passionately talk about my comics, books, and blogs to each other… and maybe even start a cult. (Spoiler: that didn’t exactly happen — I clearly overestimated my fame at the time.)
But, to be truthful, I like having the power to connect people and build a community where everyone can relate, rant, share memes, and obsess over whatever they’re into. I guess I did it to benefit others — so they could meet like-minded people — and, obviously, to squeeze every last drop out of my website.
I'm a person who loves being organised, staying on top of things, and opening up opportunities to creativity. That brings me to my next segment...
What gaps it fills? Believe it or not, the Discord server has opened up more doors than you'd think. Not only has it helped me sneak a few extra views onto my website, but it's also become my launchpad for teasing new artwork and screaming excitedly into the void about my upcoming project, ERROR 410: DIGITAL COLLAPSE. And who knows — maybe someday there’ll be a podcast, game nights, or dramatic live readings of my comics (one can dream). It’s like my secret weapon for creating opportunities I haven’t thought of yet.
Plus, it gives me a chance to host art competitions… you know, when we’ve got enough people so it’s not just me submitting entries under fake names. So join in and save me from competing with myself!
